Is Christianity for
Were you born in a christian family? Did you grow up going to church ? (or do you currently go to church?) Do you pray or read the Bible? Do you even have any interest to know a bit about God and Christ? Many people think answering "Yes" to these questions is a necessity or a primary reason as to why somebody is (or should become) a christian.
However, being a christian, in other words, a child of God is much more deeper than that. Today, at the end of reading this article, I hope you will truely come to understand that being a child of God - a christian is not a mere "religion" or "dos and don'ts".
Is Christianity for everyone?
Now I know you are here to find out the answer to this question. The right way to put this question is, Who did Jesus Christ die for? - that answers the question. Jesus Christ died for all humanity = everyone. The bible says in John 3: 16, "For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life". Many people will argue that Jesus Christ died only for Isreal. However, we can see that He died for the "world", not just Isreal. Also, in Acts 17:30, Mark 16:15 and other references in the bible tells us that Christ died for the whole world and therefore, God wants everybody everywhere to repent and come closer to Him, so that you can be a new life in Christ (2 Corinthians 5:17-20).
But you don't believe in the Bible (or in Jesus Christ)?
As a follower and a believer of Christ, if anyone asks me, “prove that Jesus Christ existed” or “prove that God exist so that I can believe in the Bible”, there are many things I can mention to that person to prove that there is God. But in the past, when people asked me these questions, often times, I end up feeling foolish trying to prove that there is God or that the the words in the bible are true as we may end up arguing. Here is something to take note, that no matter how someone tries to prove that there is God (even with many valid points) you may not end up believing in God's existence. This is because it is not man that convicts but God does.
“so that your faith might not rest on human wisdom, but on God’s power.”In John 16:8 it says, “And when he (holy Spirit) comes, he will convict the world concerning sin and righteousness and judgment.”, 1 Corinthians 2:4-5 also talks about how God does the work of conviction in the heart of people. And when God convicts, He can speak through ministers of God, the bible and many other things. So I urge you today, if you want to know the truth which is God and Christ, seek Him, for the bible says, “If you look for me wholeheartedly, you will find me.” (Jeremiah 29:13).
1 Corinthians 2:5
How can you seek God?
When you seek God, you must to be open hearted to receive the truth. If you are stony hearted or strong headed, God will hardly speak to you because you are not ready to change even if you hear the the truth since
you have fixed your heart to your opinion regardless. The word of God says, “Therefore, as the Holy Spirit says,“Today, if you hear his voice, do not harden your hearts as in the rebellion,...”” (Hebrews 3:7-8).
Here are ways you can seek God:
1. Through the word of God
The scripture, in other words, the word of God/bible is inspired by God, as the bible says “All Scripture is inspired by God and is useful to teach us what is true and to make us realize what is wrong in our lives.” (2 Timothy 3:16a). Therefore, the word of God is a great tool in knowing what is true. Do not say, “If God is really true, let Him prove Himself to me”, because God gave us free will from the beginning our lives. So He does not force Himself on anyone, it is your choice to search Him or to ignore the truth. Just as, if a scientist is curious to know a fact, he will do his research following the right method, if you want to know the truth you can seek Him by reading the word of God. If that scientist does not do his own part and just relax, will he find the fact? The bible also says, “But Jesus answered them, “You are wrong, because you know neither the Scriptures nor the power of God.”” (Matthew 22:29).
2. Through prayer
Have you ever prayed before? I your answer is “No”, do not worry, because it's not hard to pray. Go to a solemn place where you will not be distracted, it could be in your room. Then, speak to God from your heart, you can say it out as well. Pour out all your questions and burdens that you have in your heart and He will surely hear you out ( Matthew 11:28).
“If you believe, you will receive whatever you ask for in prayer.”When you pray, pray with faith, that is, believe that God will hear and answer your prayer and it will be done.
3. Attend bible studies and church services
It will help you to learn many thing you should know about God and His word. Also, fellowshiping with other believers teaches you how to pray (and pray together), share burdens together. The bible strongly recommends us to fellowship with other believers in Hebrews 10:25.
However, there is one significant thing you must keep in mind before attending any church. Not all churches are true believers. Do not be deceived by churches that preach diluted word of God, this is what the bible says, “For the time will come when people will not tolerate sound doctrine and accurate instruction [that challenges them with God’s truth]; but wanting to have their ears tickled [with something pleasing], they will accumulate for themselves [many] teachers [one after another, chosen] to satisfy their own desires and to support the errors they hold” (2 Timothy 4:3). So do not be deceived, or do not just go to a church that preaches what you want to hear, however, go to a church that strongly abide by the word of God. Thus, it is very important to read and study the bible on your own and pray for God to show you the way of the truth, so that you will not fall into the false doctrines. Nevertheless, do not be over-confident or self-sufficient, however, look for a bible-believing church and fellowship with other true believers (Hebrews 10:25).
What if you choose not to be a christian?
As mentioned earlier, Jesus Christ died for the whole world... wait a minute, who is Jesus Christ and why did He die?
“For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.”Jesus Christ is the son of God and He died to save the humanity from all powers of sin and eternal destruction (Hell).
The first humans God created were Adam and Eve. God put them in the garden of Eden with a commandment, “You may eat freely from every tree of the garden, but you must not eat from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil; for in the day that you eat of it, you will surely die.” (Genesis 2:17-18). But unfortunately, Eve fell into temptation by the devil, lured by lust of the eyes over the fruit, and Adam being carried away by Eve's words (Genesis 3:5-6), they both ate the fruit, and thus, disobeyed God. Due to their disobedience, God punished them. This is how sin and suffering came into the world. Adam and Eve brought sin and suffering into the world by their sin, disobedience.
Humans sin, such as lying, addiction, hatred, envy, murder (with words too), fornication, drunkenness, disobedient to parents, unfaithful to spouse and many more, because sin has dominion over people's mind. Even if you try to fix your character you may end up doing the same thing you said you will never do. It is even very difficult for you anyone to transform his/her heart to a pure heart so that he/she will not hate or envy.
However, God is merciful, kind, and loves the world so much, therefore, He sent His only begotten Son Jesus Christ from heaven (the only man and will ever be the only man who lived a sinless life while on earth) to save us from the powers of sin and Satan, by dying on the cross. He was bruised, beaten and murdered for the sake of our sins and rose up after three days of His death. God knows that because of the sinful nature of humans (Psalm 51:5), we will not be able to live a holy and a righteous life and due to that we can end up in hell after life on this earth. But here is the good news, the bible says whosoever believes in His death and resurrection will not perish but will have everlasting life (John 3:16). That is, if you believe in His death and resurrection, confess your sins to God, repent and make up your mind to live a holy and a righteous life, you will not suffer everlasting destruction in hell but will enjoy everlasting joy in heaven.
“But he said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore I will boast all the more gladly of my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ may rest upon me.”You may have doubt or be worried that you will not be able to live a holy life, but this is why Jesus Christ died. By His death and resurrection, grace has been made availble to every child of God. Asking God for grace helps every child of God to live a holy life. That is why the bible we are saved by grace and not by our own works of good deeds. So that nobody will boast that he/she was saved because of the good deeds (Ephesians 2:8-9 ). If you are hot-tempered, envious, lier, strong headed, prideful, ask God for the grace to make you a better person and to help you become holy like Jesus Christ, and the Lord God will give you abundant grace.
2 Corinthians 12:9
If you choose not to follow, believe, and receive Jesus Christ, and choose to live according to the sinful pleasures of the world, then just remember that a day is coming when you will stand before the throne of judgement and God will not have God will not hear any excuse nor spare you because you have refused to repent of your sins and have chosen to reject His only begotten son Jesus Christ. You will be casted in to the lake of fire and suffer everlasting punishment (John 3:36). But I pray you will not counted as one of them.
Christianity is beyond what people call “religion”. It is the will of God for everyone to be saved through the name of the Lord Jesus Christ, in order that you, I, and everyone can become children of God (and enjoy our right, blessings and God's purpose as children of God too!) and so that you will not suffer eternal condemnation. “For just as through the disobedience of the one man (Adam) the many were made sinners, so also through the obedience of the one man (Jesus Christ) the many will be made righteous.” (Romans 5:19) and therefore Jesus Christ is the justification for our sins and sufferring. The time is short and does anybody know the day of their death? Why not repent today and surrender yourself and your sins to God? May God bless as you make up your mind today in Jesus name Amen.
